Duncan was going on holiday to join his parents at their caravan in North Wales (near Dollgellau) but his friend Mike dropped out, so Duncan thought Mary might enjoy the mountain walks, but didnt have her phone number!!
So he contacted his friend Gary Simpson (who was in 1993 was Best Man!), and eventually via Ros Brand got Marys number.
He invited Mary, explaining his parents would be there and there was nothing romantic, purely as a friend who enjoyed walking.
She decided to think about it and rang back a few days to accept. Duncan collected her from Poynton railway station and then drove to Wales for a long weekend.
It was while walking around Lake Cregenan they fell in love.
